Skull from naturally-deceased coyote, found on my uncle's farm in South Dakota. Teeth are testimony to the age of this poor guy; they're quite worn down from use, meaning that he was well past his prime when he laid down in the grass to die. Bone had a yellow-ish green tint to it, but I painted the whole thing black and then added the silver detail later on.
This piece is already sold, but I Lo0oVE painting skulls and am hoping to do more later on. I also hope to do some carving once I find a place outside the dorms which will tolerate me and my dead stuff. Bone dust smells funny, and can really do a number on your lungs.
you sound like my mate sarel. loves making art from found object (dead objects). he once made a skull by soldering old coins together over a kudu skull looks epic. but now he just casts "thing" in bronze
i'm so tempted to paint one of my animal skulls now! what kind of paint did you use, certain paints can damage bone and i don't want to take any chances.
