Synesthesia: Sinus Migraine

Description

A few years back, I suffered from an inner-ear infection which resulted in a week-long never-ending headache. I felt like the stuffing inside my skull was spinning clockwise every time I sat up or even slightly moved my head.

Several months later, I still remember exactly what it looked like to me; perhaps because it was practically imprinted into my mind, or perhaps because while painting this, I had a sinus infection which likewise lead to a migraine, and which inevitably reminded me of the past one.

It was a dark gray-blue with streaks of lighter and darker blue around the sides. Looked sharp in some places, and out-of-focus in others. There also white ticks of light mixed into it, which were the most painful part of the headache. Not sure how to describe it, but I'm sure that if you've had a migraine before you know what I'm talking about. It's a paintful prickle over the constant throbbing, and is very unpleasant.

Other migraines I've had in the past are different colors. Most of them are orange, and only occur on one side of my head (this being the left side). Despite undergoing numerous tests and even having MRIs and MRAs performed, no one has been able to figure out what causes them, though one theory is that it's the synesthesia itself. I wouldn't doubt this, since many other synesthetes also seem to suffer from migraines like me.

Cool piece.

I see sound, and some of the headaches that result from loud base(darkening of colors) or high pitch(sharpening of intensity) are pretty awful.

Unfortunately, I can't see what they look like.

(I also see colors letters/#s as well as some people, but those I can sometimes ignore, and are not prone to causing headaches)
