Teva the She-Wolf Headdress by NaturePunk Teva the She-Wolf Headdress by NaturePunk
Teddy Anderson of Teddy Anderson Photography swung through Portland on a visit.

We were originally going to spend a few hours shooting, but ended up on a photo-walk that lasted from around 2:00 until 7:00.

When he said he was planning to spend the night in his car, I offered my place for the night, so we ended up having a slumber party here with Blackjack when we were done.

Taxidermy and post-processing by me. :)

NOTE: Teva is a female wolf from Southeast Alaska. She was taken for population control by a friend of mine who works with the state Fish and Wildlife Department. Her pelt was already tanned when I purchased her and she was not deemed suitable for traditional taxidermy purposes. The alternative would have been to sell her on the open fur market, where her pelt would have been cut up and made into clothing.

If you don't like it, don't look.

I'm glad you kept her off the fur market. You look shamanic :)

I don't see why people freak out about this, the wolf was already dead, she didn't slaughter it herself, not only that but it would have gone to waste any other way (at least in my opinion). sorry about that rant, lovely photo,

How respectful to it

I love your workmanship. It is really beautiful. I don't know why people get so upset about it. Better for the spirit of that animal to be honored and respected through spiritual practices than cut up for 'fashion' and mundanely worn. I was wondering if you knew good places to look for furs that were legally culled for population control and such. I don't know where to look.

Vintage and antique stores are the best places to find furs. If you're lucky to live in a big city like me, you may also find some auction houses for estates liquidations.

Great job with the taxidermy, I glad you kept the pelt out of the fur market :P It's also good to hear that there are enough wolves in your area that population control is needed. Wolf populations elsewhere aren't quite that stable...

Wolves in my home state of Oregon are only overpopulated in certain locations, and they are closely-regulated. In Alaska, where this wolf came from, they are heavily overpopulated and causing destruction to the environment, so the cull is necessary. A lot of time and research goes into deciding if a population needs to be thinned-out or encouraged to grow in order to keep balance. Most people don't know that. :)

Yes, many people don't know that :P My parents lived in Montana for many years ( I was born there but only lived there for a few years) and we had the opposite problem with wolves, there weren't many due to farmers shooting them and such, and the deer were overrunning everything! Many starved in the winter too it was sad.

The only thing horrible about this is to think that the wolf's pelt would have gone to waste if not made into a functional piece of art. If you have time to waste making idiotic judgements about something you didn't even take the time to read about, then you certainly have time to ask questions before accusing this of being "horrible".

Plus, yes I did read the description.
Im just allowed to post my opinion. The wolf looks very pretty, I just dont like what has happened there, Im allowed to say that whether you like it or not. I dont intentionally try to offend people but if you want to take what I think about it personally then go ahead :/

In my opinion, there needs to be some population control on the human race lol then they can stop destroying shizz to make more homes to accommodate their selfish needs ;3

''Humans are overpopulated.''
We are also the smart creatures who provided the computer you are currently using.
We take dominance as most likley, the strongest race on earth, and will be for a long time.
It is NOT going to change soon.

Humans are not overpopulated. That's a common myth shared by people with a minimal understanding of population growth. Humans numbers are not the issue (however, our rate of consuption of resources is) If you take any courses on ecology in college, you'll eventually learn that. But, in the meantime, here's some food for thought to dispel your argument yet again: [link]

Meanwhile, wolf population control works for the good of the environment and actually increases wildlife populations over time. Don't believe me? Take it from a retired wolf biologist: [link]

These are facts, not opinion. This is science, not emotion. I am not, like you, spewing idiotic assumptions I cannot defend with anything more than "This is just my opinion so you have to respect it!" Sorry, but your opinion is founded on stupidity. No one who reads this will ever take you seriously.

If you want to share your "opinion" be sure that you're actually sharing it intelligently. If you have nothing honestly factual to respond with, I suggest you merely move along, kiddo. Any further idiotic comments from you will be blocked. Tootles! :D

This Overpopulation Myth website isn't a particularly credible source. The Population Research Institute is a christian pro-life anti-contraception propaganda organisation with not a single peer reviewed scientific publication.

Good to know. But they do have several good points that are mathematically sound. My college professor never used these guys as a source directly, but taught more-or-less the same logic: Overpopulation itself isn't the issue; consumerism and the amount of resources that individuals are using, is.

I dont call that art.
When you die, I'll take off your skin so it isnt a waste, then sell it off and let them wear it or hang it up or whatever.
Call me foolish, but I see that as the same thing.
You talk as if Im not allowed to have an opinion. Now who's being idiotic? :P

This is not "beautiful" as other people have commented. This is racist and a grotesque appropriation of Native American cultures and traditions that you clearly know nothing about. I highly suggest you read the stuff on the following webpage: [link]

Native Americans are not the only people to use furs, bows, and wear body paint. My European ancestors did the same things. The fact that you discredit European use of pelts, bows, and body paint and automatically assume that this must be "Native" says a lot about you. Fur =/= Native Americans. Bows =/= Native Americans. Body paint =/= Native Americans. Educate yourself before you run around trying to play the part of appropriation police.

If you don't like it, don't look. Regardless of whether or not you agree with population control, biologists throughout the state of Alaska support it, and so long as wolves are being killed for the good of the ecosystem, I shall continue to put their pelts to use.

No. I don't. In areas where wolf culls have been instated, wolf populations actually rise. That's a fact. If you can't accept it, then go ahead and keep on believing in your delusional Disney world. But the fact of the matter still stands. [link]
