The Taxidermy Community Fights Back!

We in the taxidermy community - sellers, buyers, and supporters alike - are perfectly aware that many people are not comfortable with seeing dead animals, regardless of the mediums in which they are depicted and/or preserved.

We therefore wish for Etsy to simply instate a system for it’s viewers which plainly omits items tagged with “taxidermy” or “wet specimen” from those viewers’ search results.

This system would be akin to Tumblr’s ‘Savior’ plug-in, which simply hides posts that contain tags which the Savior user has selected to be blocked, effectively making Tumblr a safer and kinder place for the viewer while still allowing its users to freely post what they please without having to censor their works. 

On Etsy, this platform would be far better than forcing artists to censor their perfectly harmless creations, and would allow visitors to your site a much friendlier and worry-free experience tailored perfectly to their own comfort levels and needs, with applications far outreaching the taxidermy community alone. 

A feature like this would allow people with PTSD, depression, and other mental conditions to omit triggering material from their searches, or people with certain phobias to avoid content which may feature the subject of their fears. 

The taxidermy community is, and always has been, willing to work hand-in-hand with Etsy’s policy-makers to create a selling platform which is friendly for both sellers and buyers alike, but have felt continually ignored. This time, we’d like to work with you to ensure that Etsy remains a welcoming environment for taxidermists and supporters, and, hopefully, to make Etsy a better place for everyone.
