Flavel House, Astoria Oregon

Took a drive down to Astoria the other weekend, where the movie 'The Goonies' was filmed. I'd been there once before this, a long time ago, and couldn't forget the house. It's beautiful! Sure, it's in need of some serious TLC, but the floorplan looks pretty nifty (from outside, at least), and it has plenty of character. I couldn't go in, of course, but I really, really wanted to. It brought me to wonder: 'How does such a lovely house fall into such disrepair?'

"It occurred to me that I shouldn't be here; I was breaking some sort of unwritten law.
But the draw of adventure was, to me, like a siren song, and so I kept going into the darkness.
I left the door open.
I couldn't bring myself to close it.
The smell of the house made me edgy, and I was afraid to close myself in. It would have made you edgy too, if you'd seen some of things I'd seen in places like this..."
