Piebald Deer Fawn Headdress

Piebald fawn headdress WIP. No finishing work has yet been done.

The hide came from a fellow taxidermist cheap because the lower jaw (chin area) had slipped so badly that it was virtually bare. While a fix could have been arranged, the rest of the hide was still at risk of slippage, and it was a gamble on my part to attempt this project.

Given what I had to work with, this turned out pretty well and I had zero issues with the fur. But oddly enough, I did have an issue with the leather side. Apparently, the tanning wasn't done very well and even though it had been done less than a year ago, it still tore in one place as the result of apparent dry-rot.

Also, I'm wearing make-up in this photo. It's very out-of-character for me, but I'd just returned from my sister's wedding. Everything went wonderfully!

NOTE: I did not kill this deer. He has tags to prove he was legally harvested. If you don't like it, don't look.
